OCD Therapy in Los Angeles, California
For adults who are exhausted from battling intrusive thoughts that feel completely at odds with who they are.
OCD has a way of making even the most unlikely fears feel urgent, important, and impossible to ignore. With effective OCD treatment, you can learn to step out of that cycle and start putting your time and energy back toward the life you actually want to live.
*Online OCD therapy is available in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and throughout California
OCD can take over your time in ways that are hard to explain to anyone else:
Circling back while driving because you felt a bump and need to make sure you didn’t hit someone.
Replaying a conversation from three days ago to figure out whether you said something offensive or inappropriate.
Googling symptoms late at night because you need to know whether the sensation in your body could mean something serious.
Avoiding knives, balconies, children, or other situations because an intrusive thought made you question what you’re capable of.
Asking your partner the same question in slightly different ways, hoping this answer will finally make you feel certain.
OCD therapy can help you take back time so you can:
Drive to work without turning around to make sure you didn't hit someone.
Let a conversation stay in the past without replaying every word to know if you did something wrong.
Notice a strange sensation in your body and just let it be without googling what it means.
Be around the people, places, and things you care about without avoiding them because of an intrusive thought.
Make decisions and move forward without needing someone else to reassure you that everything is okay.

I have experience working with a wide variety of OCD symptom types and severity. Here are some common issues I support my clients with:
Contamination — fear of germs, illness, chemicals, or certain people/places (due to "emotional contamination" tied to a bad memory). Compulsions might include handwashing, using barriers like paper towels or gloves, excessive cleaning, or avoidance.
Harm — intrusive fears of unintentionally hurting yourself or someone else (a hit-and-run, a mistake with lasting consequences, losing control around others). Compulsions often include reassurance-seeking, checking the news, or avoiding certain people or activities altogether.
Religion/morality (scrupulosity) — fear of offending God, acting blasphemously, or being "immoral." Compulsions include praying, confessing, or seeking reassurance from loved ones or clergy.
Symmetry / "just right" — needing objects arranged a certain way, or repeating an action or phrase until it feels just right.
Sexual or taboo intrusive thoughts — distressing, unwanted thoughts about sex, identity, or orientation that conflict entirely with a person’s actual desires or values.
Checking — repeatedly verifying locks, appliances, or actions to prevent a feared outcome.
Magical thinking — believing a thought or action can directly cause an unrelated event.
Existential themes — getting stuck on unanswerable questions about one’s existence, reality, meaning, or identity.
Even if your symptoms aren't listed above that doesn't mean I can't help you. Although the content of the OCD may change and vary from person to person, the cycle of OCD, and therefore the treatment, remains the same. I take a considerable amount of time at the beginning of your therapy to get to understand your own unique set of symptoms and tailor treatment around that.

In ERP, we gradually practice facing the thoughts, feelings, situations, or sensations that OCD tells you to avoid while reducing your engagement in compulsions. Over time, your brain learns that anxiety, although uncomfortable, is not dangerous. You don’t have to do anything to make it go away—it will go away on its own.
In addition to ERP, I also use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. These approaches help you create a different relationship with intrusive thoughts and discomfort and reconnect with the things that matter most to you.
Research consistently shows that ERP, along with other evidence-based therapies, is one of the most effective treatments for OCD.

Potentially. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I can provide you with a superbill, which is an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance company.
Your insurance company determines whether you’re eligible for reimbursement and how much of the session fee they will reimburse. I recommend contacting your insurer directly to ask about your specific out-of-network mental health benefits to learn more.
